Whatever Happened To Wrestling The Way It Was In The 70s?

Once upon a time in an arena not far away, many would come from all around to see wrestlers in defined (with some rules) battles of strength. It was called professional wrestling. While it was a little violent it was actually still ok as family entertainment.

There were many professional wrestling moves that were commonly used by the wrestlers on each other, and occasional improvisation. There was honor, and as it appeared, even within their costumes, the winner was the best wrestler. Maybe it was fixed then, or maybe it was actual wrestling. Regardless, it had some values.

Most of the moves weren’t simply a bar room brawl style argument and fight match dressed in clothes that flaunt more sexuality, and have little to do with the sport at hand. Their goals weren’t to create a big stage on differing argumentative topics, taking the worst of demoralization and making it the mainstay. The strong taking advantage of the weak as a professional sport is having implications throughout society.

There have been several cases where children have actually killed other children simply re-enacting what they saw in professional wrestling. There are other cases of domestic violence directly linked to the rink as well. And even the brawls in the bar-rooms have become more violent than ever.

Today more than ever, we can see the side effects of this sort. While many will simply blame it on this or that, violence is a clear and present problem and growing. Domestic violence is becoming more and more documented, and there are definite indications tying it not only to music, and movies, but also to modern day professional wrestling.

Today professional wrestling has exploded to the extreme of what we are already combating against in raising our families. It comes without morals, extreme violence, and it would seem the only rule is “no rules”.

Professional Wrestling has also become all about the money, making many millions on pay-per-view TV. That’s what keeps it coming up. Where there is money, there will be those doing whatever they find to grab it up.

Irresponsibly, a number of sources have taken up in making violence, inappropriate behaviors, vulgarity, and many other things that are counterproductive to society, look great in the lights, and as a result many new problems arise as a result. It’s very apparent considering the increases in abuse, violent crime, growing presence of many younger in jails and institutions; though since it is profitable it continues.

While it’s not wise or possible to blame societies problems on one thing, it’s about time that focus has been given to the big picture, and in the big picture, there is a lot of violence, abuse, and many other problems that are reaching our children even more by the year. With that experience, they grow up and the question becomes what will they carry on? Do we want that to be a violent, vulgar, and increasingly imprisoned world?
